Rio San Juan

Localisaton de Rio San Juan en République Dominicaine

Rio San Juan is located on the north coast less than 37 miles east of Cabarete and 31 miles northwest of Nagua, about one hour's drive from the international airport of Puerto Plata and one hour drive from the new international airport of El Catey.

It is a town of 15,000 inhabitants spared from mass tourism which has retained its charm. The wooden houses are painted in flamboyant colors and people warmly welcome the small number of tourists.

Rio San Juan seduces all nature lovers and those who enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of busy tourist spots. The beaches are superb, especially that of Playa Caleton (a calm bay surrounded by mangroves and by rocks). The surfers prefer Playa Grande, a huge sandy beach with waves internationally known.

Without forgetting the countryside surrounding Rio San Juan, the river where you can swim in summer, and where it is still easy to find crayfish as the river is not polluted.
Some foreigners have chosen to spend time in a quiet town.

There are several (modern) buses per day to the capital SD with the company Caribe Tours (journey lasts 4 hours).
